Coaldale Prairie Winds Secondary School is currently welcoming applications for the Full-Time, Permanent, Child and Youth Care Worker (CYCW) commencing August 21, 2026. As we embrace a “we are all learning support” model, this role is essential in fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Palliser School Division, which serves approximately 8,100 students across southern Alberta is committed to proactive mentorship and ensuring that "we are all learning support" for our student body.

The successful candidate will provide day-to-day social, emotional, and behavioral support, serving as a mentor to students who require timely assistance in navigating relationships and conflict. This position is critical to enhancing our school culture and ensuring every student feels a strong sense of belonging.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Provide daily social-emotional and behavioral mentorship and support for students.
  • Relationship Building: Proactively assist students in navigating interpersonal relationships and resolving conflicts.
  • Collaboration: Work as a collaborative member of the CPWS team to support an inclusive learning environment.
  • Culture Building: Implement strategies to improve school culture and increase the sense of belonging for all students.
  • Intervention: Provide timely support to reduce the frequency of behavioral office referrals and CSTAG (Collaborative Skilled Threat Assessment Guidelines) incidences.
  • Data & Reporting: Assist in the collection of qualitative and quantitative data to monitor the impact of the role on student outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of a recognized Child and Youth Care program or a related field is an asset.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with youth in a mentorship or behavioral support capacity is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of social-emotional learning (SEL) frameworks and proactive behavioral intervention strategies.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a recent Criminal Record Check (within 3 months), including the vulnerable sector check.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating within a professional learning community.

  • Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check from Local Police Service or RCMP detachment (dated within the last 3 months);
  • Social Insurance Number (SIN) card or document issued by Service Canada; SIN card/document must be in current legal name. Name on SIN card/document must match your Government Issued ID and Criminal Record Check;
  • Government issued ID - valid driver's license, valid passport or Nexus card;
  • Child Intervention Check, completed within 3 months of contract start date.
